As part of the Senior Cycle in Dunamase College, students engage with a variety of subjects.

Senior Cycle Subjects

The Senior Cycle programme is run over two years. The programme aims to provide learners with a broad, balanced education while also offering them a chance to specialise towards particular higher education and career options. Typically, students would study seven subjects at either Higher or Ordinary Level. Students also have the option of taking up LCVP as an additional eighth subject.

Leaving Certificate Points System

All subjects at Leaving Certificate carry equal points, with the exception of Higher Level Maths, which has a bonus of 25 points if you get over 40%.

  • The maximum Leaving Certificate points are 625.
  • Higher Level Subjects = 100 points.
  • Ordinary Level Subjects = 56 points.

LCVP (Leaving Certificate Vocational Programme)

  • 60% Portfolio & 40% Exam.
  • Portfolio: CV, Action Plan, Career Investigation, Summary Report, submitted early March.
  • Exam: Written exam in May. Requires more practice than study.
  • Two classes per week that include work experience in the 5th Year.
  • Distinction = 66 points (H4)
  • Merit = 46 points (H6)
  • Pass = 28 points (O4)
